Bangkok (28 November - 1 December 2007)
We took a boat from Ko Lanta to Krabi and spent the day wandering about this little town. Later that afternoon, we got onto our overnight bus from Krabi back to Bangkok. And what would you know - Werner and Chanel were on the same bus!
This time I was better prepared for the bus journey and its vicious air conditioning and all went smoothly. We arrived back in crazy Bangkok the next morning, booked into Sawasdee Hotel and then set off to do some last minute preparation for the India trip.
Eon and I went to the local travel clinic to get the last of our hepatitis A&B vaccinations. Thereafter, we met up with Werner and Chanel to go to MBK to do some shopping - we had to buy some toiletries (things we were not sure that we’ll find in India) and I had to get some cover-up-clothes (apparently the men in India stare at women open-mouthed and I wanted to limit chances of this by looking as modest as possible).
The shopping was delayed till late that evening as we got a bit stuck at the MBK tenpin bowling arena. Who would have thought that something so easy-looking could be such a challenge for me?! And Eon on the other hand, was a natural pro - he even had this little swing-move as part of his act. The bright neon lights added to the effect and we had a “ball”!
The following night, the four of us had a party - let’s just say it was a combination of a farewell party and an early birthday party for Eon. We wanted to sit somewhere and have a couple of beers, but it was too expensive so we went to the 7 Eleven and bought a small bottle of the local whiskey (the same one that we had on more than one occasion in Thailand before) and some soda, Red Bull and Coke. We roamed the streets of Banglamphu with revived personality and regretted to whole episode the next morning (some more than others…)
The last day in Bangkok was used for some last minute shopping and for posting home 5kg of souvenirs and gifts. Then we packed our bags, checked out, said our goodbyes to Werner and Chanel and took the Airport Express bus to the airport.
The first leg of our trip was over - South East Asia was amazing and we were sad to leave. But ahead laid India - daunting and exciting.
