Hong Kong (16 - 18 February 2008)
Our RTW tickets had us on a connecting flight between Philippines and New Zealand, so we had two days to spend in Hong Kong. We really did not mind this, we love Hong Kong. It feels like a ‘home from home’ for us. We have been here so many times and each time has been great! On arrival in Honk Kong, we took a bus to the shopping area (let’s rather say to ‘electronics street’) where we booked into the hotel we stayed at about six months ago. Only this time, we had a great room with a window!
After checking in, we ventured out to Electronics Street to start our search for a camera for me (my birthday gift from Eon). When I found Grapetizer in the Seven Eleven, I nearly burst into tears! This is my favourite drink back home and I have not had any for the last six months! I stood there on the busy sidewalk, with tears in my eyes and Eon smiling back at me…
The next morning, we had to do first things first - we had to find a bookstore that has the New Zealand Lonely planet in stock. Not one bookstore in the Philippines had this book and we were getting desperate! After a very long walk, we finally found the book and so we could get back to Electronics Street for Eon’s favourite activity - shopping for a camera!
I am now the proud owner of a Canon G9 and you will soon be able to see some of my photographer efforts on the website (if Eon approves of my pics)
That evening, we had a local speciality noodle soup that had both Eon and I in tears. No, it was not that good, it was that spicy. And there was some weird-looking meat in the dish that looked like stomach lining or something. We struggled through the bowl only halfway before we sheepishly got up and left.
We also had the chance to see the ‘light show’ from the pier and I could try out my new camera. The next day it was off to New Zealand!
